Diggin’ The Darkest Drifts

“Twenty years after the catastrophic Dark Wave damaged every faster-than-light crystal, leaving thousands of ships stranded and drifting, a small salvage vessel arrives at a spaceship graveyard. But the crew soon discover that not everything on this Drift is dead, and as the objective changes from salvage to survival, it emerges that one crew member has a secret agenda.” director Darren Scales, via IMDB

A rag-tag crew on a salvage mission find a derelict ship that isn’t as dead and empty in space as it should be.

In the future, starlight crystals enable ships to travel faster than light, and humans have spread out among the stars. But the crystals fail and ships are stranded in various areas of space. Twenty years later, salvage crews roam the void for any remaining fragments of the starlight crystals.

The spaceship Deliverance “drifts” into a ship graveyard looking to scavenge a cargo ship. As they begin to investigate, the story of the lost crew starts unfolding. Surprisingly, there remains survivors on the cargo ship who have divided themselves into tribes. Mutiny, cannibalism, and secret missions all start adding up.

As a movie shot with all local talent (Lincolnshire, UK) on a super-small budget of £5000, it manages to execute well as a feature film. Though the low-budget can explain away the sets and special effects, the shaky-cam editing actually take you out of the movie a bit.
